You Hurt My Feelings

Two Last Shows!

Beth (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and her husband Don (Tobias Menzies) share the kind of relationship that’s too good to be real. After decades of marriage, parenting, and career-building, they’re still completely in love, and their spark has somehow not diminished. In fact, they seem to relish the opportunity to share a single ice cream cone and drive others – including their son, Eliot (Owen Teague) – mad. But when Beth discovers that Don has been untruthful to her about his opinion of her latest novel, her world comes crashing down. What else has he lied about?

A cleverly observed film from writer-director Nicole Holofcener (Walking and Talking, Lovely and Amazing, Friends With Money), You Hurt My Feelings delicately skewers its sharply drawn, imperfect characters’ insecurities, privilege, and narcissism. Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Tobias Menzies lead a uniformly superb and funny cast as they pull everyone around them into the fallout of navigating whether loving someone also requires loving their work.
