The Lost King
Showtimes April 7 - 13:
Philippa Langley (Sally Hawkins) is a writer who finds herself suffering a midlife malaise after a divorce and some health challenges. When she happens upon the Richard III Society, she feels connected to his story. After his defeat by Henry Tudor, Richard’s reputation was maligned and contorted for generations, and over the course of 500 years, “alternative facts” became conventional wisdom. Philippa, too, feels powerless to change other people’s misunderstandings of her and becomes determined to set the king’s story straight by finding his long-lost remains. Weathering derision from credentialed experts, she fights ferociously to redeem Richard, and in mending history’s fractured perception of the king, she comes closer to mending herself. Directed by Stephen Frears (Philomena, The Queen, High Fidelity, Dirty Pretty Things) and co-written by Steve Coogan and Jeff Pope, this uplifting story rests on the perfect tension between past and present.
