In the 1960s, Julian Sklar (Ian McKellen) was a breakout star in London’s art scene. His status enabled him to enjoy quite the life, but in his later years, he’s drifted into a cluttered, self-imposed seclusion, burying himself deep in his home studio. Somewhere in his self-made world, his estranged children (James Corden & Jessica Gunning) know he’s hiding some unfinished paintings. They’re part of his famous series, “The Christophers,” and they would be worth a great deal if completed. To secure their inheritance, they devise a plan to hire a talented friend (Michaela Coel), help her gain access to the canvases, and secretly forge their completion so they can be discovered after his death. But things go terribly awry in this sly caper from Stephen Soderbergh, who tells the story with masterful panache.
