Stars at Noon

Showtimes October 14 - 20:

Adapted from a Denis Johnson novel set in Nicaragua on the eve of the Sandinista revolution, in Stars at Noon, Claire Denis updates the story to the pandemic-era present. In the film, Margaret Qualley plays an American journalist whose assignment has run its course. Finding herself stranded-in-place, she uses her wits and wiles to find a way out of the country and believes Daniel (Joe Alwyn), a suave young British oilman, seems like her best conduit. But as she gets to know him, she discovers that Daniel is in danger, and the two find themselves part of a story of crosses, double-crosses, and tangled involvements amidst a terrain of jungle heat. A feminist reappraisal of a steamy drama, “Denis has crafted a film that syncs your heartbeat to its own intoxicating rhythms: a full-body immersion in uneasy pleasures.” – Robbie Collin, Daily Telegraph
