When Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling), a school-teacher-turned-astronaut, wakes up from a coma, he’s alone on a space station with no memory of who he is or what his mission may be. As his memory begins to return, he pieces together that he was sent to the Tau Ceti solar system, 12 light years from Earth, to reverse the impact of a space event that had already hurled our planet into the early stages of an Ice Age. As details of his mission unravel, guided by Eva Stratt (Sandra Hüller ), who’s heading this international effort back on Earth, Grace must call on all of his scientific training and sheer ingenuity... but he might not have to do it alone. Delivering a cosmic adventure with hope in its heart and a twinkle in its eye, Project Hail Mary is “the science-fiction blockbuster we need in these fractious times: an anthem to resilience and co-operation that seeks solutions and rejects exceptionalist – American, or even human – to celebrate the simple possibilities of, well, just getting along a bit better” – Time Out.
