Perfect Days

Showtimes March 15 - 21:

Wim Wenders returns with this poignant character study about a public janitor in Tokyo that doubles as a deeply moving reflection on finding the beauty in the everyday world around us.

Hirayama lives alone in a small house full of plants, where his days are ordered according to quiet rhythms that never seem to change. Every morning, he wakes to the sound of the street sweeper outside his house. He brushes his teeth, waters the flowers, dons his work clothes, and gets in his car to drive to his job as a janitor of public toilets. We follow him through his dutiful workday, through the parks in which he takes breaks, and through his neighborhood at night. Friends and family pop in and out of the story, which captures the architecture of the city’s downtown through the windows of a van and animates every drive with ageless, cassett-player tunes by the Rolling Stones, Patti Smith, and Lou Reed. Through Hirayama’s world, Wim Wenders captures the poetry of the everyday with intimacy and stunning simplicity., conjuring a visual symphony of ordinary life. This movie has so much soul, it’s not to be missed.
