Past Lives

Showtimes July 14 - 20:

An aching, deeply romantic debut feature from playwright Celine Song, Past Lives is a love story told across three moments in time. Nora and Hae Sung connect as classmates at a primary school in Seoul, but their friendship ends abruptly when Nora’s family moves to Canada. Twelve years later, Nora is a playwriting student in New York. Noticing that Hae Sung has been searching for her on social media, she connects with him online and the two begin talking while she’s in school. But distance and life choices still separate them, and another dozen years pass before they finally meet over a few fateful days. With an artful aesthetic and profound character writing, this beautiful story explores love, identity, and “In Yun” – a Koren notion of fate stemming from two people’s connections in past lives. In the rarest of ways, the film transports us to someplace deep and soulful, in between a life we’ve longed for and the life we live.
