Bill Murray and Rashida Jones keep the spirits flowing in this father-daughter story and sparkling homage to New York City from director Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette, Somewhere).

Laura (Rashida Jones) is a blocked writer who is harried by raising two small daughters and feeling abandoned as her husband Dean (Marlon Wayans) travels around for business. One step away from wearing mom jeans, she’s a bit stuck, and something about the way Dean’s co-worker Fiona (Jessica Henwick) holds onto his arm is rubbing her the wrong way. The last thing she needs is her emotionally distant reprobate father (Bill Murray) getting involved, but that’s exactly what he does after she asks him for some simple advice. A semi-retired art dealer who turns up outside her Soho building, he greets her with an unmistakably loving, “Hey, kiddo,” and whisks her off in a convertible to spy on Dean. As the duo trail him around New York from trendy club to trendy club like a couple of Spy Kids, Laura looks to her father for insight into the male psyche, and he looks to her as the only woman who’s consistently stood by him despite his caddish lifestyle. Like a hardwired Italian comedy, Coppola simultaneously makes New York look like Rome and shows the city as it is – a place where dreams don’t come true, but some days there’s no place in the world you’d rather be.
