Of An Age

Showtimes March 15 - 16:

It’s a sweltering summer day and Kol (Elias Anton) is supposed to be gearing up to dance in the Australian Dance finals, but a frantic call from his partner, Ebony (Hattie Hook), throws his morning into disarray. She’s woken up in the middle of who-knows-where after a party the night before, and the only chance of her making it to the finals, she tells him, is if he gets her brother Adam (Thom Green) to come pick her up.

After a bit of effort (it’s the 90s and the characters are smartphone-free), Kol finds Adam, and the two set off with a road map and a vague destination in mind. It’s here that the film changes pace. Luxuriating in the young men’s chemistry, their journey is shot with an eye for warmth and an inviting intimacy. As they talk about everything from literature to cinema to the futures they imagine for themselves, it’s clear — through one’s nervous glances and the other’s unassuming swagger — they’re building a foundation. By the time they find Ebony, there’s a kinship between them, with a brotherly love that spills over into hankering sexual tension with such ease it might take your breath away. We won’t hint at where their relationship goes, but we’ll guarantee its destination is uniquely beautiful.
