La Chimera

Showtimes April 19 - 25:

Set in 1980s Tuscany, the story follows a vaudeville-esque group of tombaroli, tomb raiders who are seeking out relics with the help of Arthur (Josh O’Connor), a linen-clad prodigy from England. A former archaeological scholar, he has phenomenal luck locating antiquities using a dowsing rod, and when he reunites with his ragtag crew, the prospects of hitting the proverbial jackpot and making a big sale to an infamous trafficker are on the horizon. But when the company unearths a fifth-century relic of invaluable worth, the dark side of plundering the past comes into focus and the question of who it belongs to – everyone or no one? – is raised. Leading us through a world teeming with ghosts and treasures, La Chimera is a gift of a film, “a philosophically stimulating piece of cinema that has the rare capacity to genuinely transform the way we look at the world.” – Farah Cheded, Playlist
