Jules
Showtimes September 8 - 14:
In a summer ripe with blockbusters, Jules is an enchanting diversion. Directed with restraint by Marc Turtletaub (a producer and director best known for his work on Little Miss Sunshine, Loving, and The Farewell), the film features Ben Kingsley as Milton, a man whose life is upended when a UFO crashes in his back yard and crushes his prized azaleas.
Milton (Ben Kingsley) lives alone in a beautiful old home in western Pennsylvania. A creature of habit, he proudly maintains his property and regularly attends local council meetings to request that the town correct its motto and add a crosswalk to a busy intersection. When a UFO lands in his backyard and he adds it to his list of concerns the council should address, people begin to worry. Milton is aging, and it’s unclear if he’s losing his memory or mistaking fantasy for reality.
His situation gets even more complicated when an extra-terrestrial emerges from the ship, two local neighbors (Harriet Sansom Harris and Jane Curtain) see the alien for themselves, and clandestine government authorities begin to close in. What follows is a funny and inventive ride as the three neighbors try to save the unlikely stranger, their friend “Jules.” Perfectly cast as Milton, Kingsley brings a poignant authenticity to this story about growing old with dignity and finding meaning in the world we live in before leaving it behind.
