How would you react if the perfect partner were created just for you – to respond to your every conscious or unconscious need? For scientist Alma Felser (Maren Eggert), the reaction is instant skepticism. But in order to obtain research funds for her work, she agrees to participate in a study and live with a humanoid robot for three weeks.

Enter Tom (Dan Stevens), a smooth-talking android in a class of his own. Tailored to her individual character and needs, he speaks fluent German (with a slight British accent), quotes Rilke, whips up brunches and rose petal baths, and dances the rumba. But are these gestures enough to create an intimate bond with Alma? Actors Dan Stevens and Maren Eggert give their characters unexpected depth and delicacy in this fabulous film about questions of love, longing, and what makes human beings human.
