For a year, Sandra, her husband Samuel, and their eleven-year-old son Daniel have been living a secluded life in a remote town in the French Alps. When Samuel is found dead below his office window, the police question whether he was murdered or whether he committed suicide. Since no one was there to witness the incident, Samuel’s death is investigated as a potential murder, and his grieving wife becomes the main suspect. What follows is not just an investigation into the circumstances of Samuel’s death but an unsettling psychological journey into the depths of the couple’s relationship. The truth is not crystalline and clear in this fascinating, discordant character clash. But through all of its layers, the film has a lot to say about 21st century relationships and their ability to stand up to the logics at play in a court of law.
