Showtimes January 10 - 16:
Based on the book Dylan Goes Electric! by Elijah Wald, A Complete Unknown begins in 1961, when Dylan first arrived from Minnesota at age 19 and stepped into New York City’s vibrant music scene. With his talents for guitar, harmonica, and songwriting, he began playing in Greenwich Village clubs and forming intimate relationships with icons like Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie, and Joan Baez. But the times were tumultuous, and music was shifting. As the singer was drawn to sounds emanating from rock and roll and hungry for a change in the folk music scene, the film reels toward the 1965 Newport Folk Festival, where Dylan bucked those in charge and performed a controversial set that included electric instruments for the first time. Rounded out by fantastic performances from Edward Norton, Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro, Boyd Holbrook, and Scoot McNairy, James Mangold’s A Complete Unknown captures a complicated icon at a moment when anything felt possible.
